Privacy policy

Neem is a record-keeping app for private teachers. It helps a teacher keep track of who is enrolled, who attended, what fees are due and what has been paid. This policy explains what we hold and what we do with it.
Neem is operated by legal entity or name, and address. If you have a question about this policy, write to contact email.
What we hold
Your name and phone number, and the records you enter: students, batches, attendance, fees and payments. If you add a profile photo, we hold that too.
A parent or student sees only the records that concern them. No teacher can see another teacher's records.
Your phone number
You sign in with your phone number, and we send a code to it so you can do so. Your number is how your account is identified. Keep access to it: anyone who can receive its messages can reach your account.
We send messages about your own account, such as your sign-in code. We do not send marketing messages.
Records about other people
A teacher using Neem enters details about their students and those students' parents or guardians. If you enter someone else's details, you are responsible for having their permission to do so.
Much of what is recorded in Neem is about children, entered by the adult teaching them. Enter no more than you need, and only what a parent would expect you to keep.
Photographs of your register
You can add students by photographing a page of your register. The reading happens on your own phone. The photograph is not uploaded to us and we never hold it. Only the names and figures you then keep, after checking them, are saved, and those are saved as records you entered.
Location
If you post a class for parents to find, we ask where it is. We store the point you pin, and we never publish it at that precision. What other people see is rounded to roughly a hundred metres, because many classes run out of someone's home. An online class is asked for no location at all.
Location is only asked for when you post a class. It is not collected otherwise.
Contacts
When you add a parent, you can fill their phone number from your phone's contacts instead of typing it. Only the number you pick is kept. We do not read or upload your contact list.
Payments
Money never moves through Neem. Paying by UPI happens in your own UPI app, between you and the teacher. We cannot see, guarantee, verify or refund it. We do not hold or process card details, bank details or any payment credential.
A payment a parent marks in the app is a claim until the teacher confirms it.
What we do with it
We use what we hold to run the service for you.
We also count how Neem is used in aggregate (how many teachers there are, how far people get through setting up, which features are used) to see whether it is working and to decide what to build. Those are totals and rates.
We do not use your students' names, your fee figures or anyone's phone number to build a profile of you. We do not sell any of it, share it for advertising, or hand it to anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Neem carries no advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Where it is held
Data is stored on servers in India (Amazon Web Services, Mumbai region). Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted.
How long we keep it
We keep your records for as long as your account exists. See deletion, below.
Deleting your account and your data
You may ask for your account and its records to be deleted, and we will do it. Write to contact email from the phone number on the account.
Records another person entered about themselves are theirs, not yours, and are not removed by your request.
Children
Neem is intended for use by adults: teachers and parents. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly allow a child to create an account.
Records about children are entered by the adult teaching them, who is responsible for holding only what a parent would expect.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Where the change is significant you will be asked to read and accept it in the app.
